Perspectivas Teóricas do Mainstream da Administração Estratégica: Uma Meta-Síntese

Resumo

Na última década, vários artigos foram publicados visando revisar o desenvolvimento da pesquisa em administração estratégica (AE). Nesses trabalhos, a investigação dos fatores explicativos da heterogeneidade de desempenho entre firmas é identificada como a motivação distintiva dessa disciplina acadêmica. Nesse sentido, a vertente denominada “estratégia-como-conteúdo” é identificada como o mainstream, enfatizando aspectos substantivos (i.e. tipos de estruturas e estratégias) para a explicação das diferenças de desempenho organizacional. Nesse contexto, há uma notável convergência desses artigos no que se refere à descrição da evolução teórica dessa corrente de pesquisa. Contudo, nenhum desses trabalhos, isoladamente, fornece esse quadro geral a eles subjacente. Sintetizar essa visão por eles compartilhada acerca do desenvolvimento teórico do mainstream de AE, refletindo sobre as principais mudanças ocorridas, é, portanto, o objetivo deste artigo. Nesse sentido, uma estrutura sintética embasada nas revisões de literatura da pesquisa em AE é proposta, caracterizando-se as principais perspectivas teóricas da vertente de estratégia-como-conteúdo e fundamentando-se análises acerca da evolução que esta sofreu nas últimas décadas. Obras escritas mais importantes, principais fatores explicativos apontados para as diferenças de desempenho entre as firmas, bem como contribuições teóricas mais relevantes são identificadas para cada perspectiva; padrões no desenvolvimento teórico dessa corrente são também discutidos e tendências promissoras, salientadas. Espera-se, portanto, que este trabalho contribua tanto para a prática administrativa de estrategistas, fornecendo um framework sintético dos principais fatores que podem influenciar o desempenho de suas organizações, quanto para a orientação de novos pesquisadores na área, auxiliando-os a melhor delinearem os posicionamentos teóricos que adotarão.
